During ten days of nationwide protests in Iran, according to compiled statistics from the Hengaw Human Rights Organization, at least 27 citizens—including five children under 18—have been killed, and more than 27 people arrested.

Based on Hengaw’s documented data and evidence center, the identities of 27 people killed over the past 10 days during the protests—due to direct gunfire by government security forces—have been confirmed.

Of the 25 identified victims, at least five were children under 18: two in Kermanshah, two in Eslamabad-e Gharb (Azna), and one in Qom. Twelve of those killed were Lurs and eleven were Kurds.

Breakdown by province:

  • Lorestan: 8 cases

  • Ilam: 5 cases

  • Kermanshah: 4 cases

  • Fars: 4 cases

  • Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari: 2 cases

  • Qom: 2 cases

  • Hamedan: 1 case

  • Isfahan: 1 case

According to Hengaw, more than 1,500 people have been arrested during recent protests so far, with the identities of 546 detainees confirmed. Among them are 51 children under 18, 57 women, and 220 Kurdish citizens.

Evidence and videos obtained by Hengaw show that government forces have used live ammunition, pellet guns, and water-cannon vehicles to suppress protests. In several cases—especially in Lorestan, Ilam, and Kermanshah—forces directly fired at protesters.

Hengaw warns, based on past patterns of repression by the Islamic Republic in surrounding regions, that the government’s actions indicate a militarized approach. Disturbing scenes in some Kurdish cities may amount to war crimes against civilians.

Widespread internet disruptions in some areas have hindered access to information and verification of casualty and arrest figures.

Hengaw, while expressing concern for the safety of protesters—especially in peripheral regions—calls on the international community to respond decisively and seriously to these acts of violence.
